Adventures at the
Waystation
Several years ago, I decided to start
fostering kittens for a local clinic in the area. They run a small no-kill program,
using volunteers and staff to provide care for cats and kittens that appear on the
doorstep. They do a good job of it, too, and I'm happy to participate in the effort
to reduce the feline overpopulation problem that exists in virtually every city and state
in the U.S., and I suspect in every city and country in the world.
My
interest in the effort was "fostered" by my sister-in-law and an online friend
who also takes in felines temporarily. The online friend advised me, "You can't
save them all. You can't have them all. You're not destined to be their
Forever Home - you're just a Waystation on the road of their lives. Your job is to
make them desirable, adoptable pets that others will want to take home and
love." I've taken that message to heart, and use it as a litany that helps me
kiss them, let them go, and be thrilled when I learn that one (or more) of them has
"gone home."
Without further ado, here are
some pages with pictures of the felines who have been in my care.
